I am sure that every future app owner wonders, "Which programming language should I use for my application?". The topic is extensive because there are a lot of technologies available on the market right now. Unfortunately, picking the wrong technology brings some business risks, such as difficulties with finding developers, feature barriers, quality difficulties, or (the most costly) necessity to rewrite the app. I am aware that technology price is decisive in many cases, but paying attention only to costs can be destructive. Technology should empower your business.
I am sure that every developer (at least once) has to work in unsystematic code files. There is nothing more annoying. Today, I want to show you how organizing application code can improve your work. During years of my career, I had opportunities to implement a Clean Architecture approach in projects. In my opinion, it works very well, and it is worth using.
Have you ever wondered why some companies like Airbnb are successful while others are not? Their mobile application was downloaded over 50 million times in Google Play Store and received excellent app scores 4,6 stars from almost 1 million users. Of course, there are many reasons behind product success. I am 100% sure that one of them is a User Experience. What does it mean? For this article's purposes, I have reached for the definition of User Experience from Nielsen Norman Group (guru of approach UX Design).
In Cracow Poland, where our Railwaymen team is based, we have this infamous building called “The Skeleton” (in Polish - Szkieletor). It is 92 meters tall, which makes it the highest building in the whole city, higher than the St. Mary's Basilica even!
I am a huge fan of the Sydney Opera House architecture. For me, characteristic roofs resembling gigantic, overlapping shells of mussels look like ships sailing on Sydney Harbour. Danish architect Jørn Utzon won the competition for the design and beat over 230 entries, although he didn't even meet all the competition conditions. He provided only a general Opera sketch. I wonder if he knew then that he designed one of the most famous buildings in the world? I'm delighted with this Opera, but the fact that this building cost 95 million above the first estimation gives me shivers.
Let’s focus and try to imagine the following: you see two people who own two separate small shops in an average city.
Through the last 3 years, IT outsourcing's global value remains at the level of over $60 billion per year. Those numbers say that delegation of software development to the external IT resources is a stable tendency. IT outsourcing allows hiring high-quality developers to build any kind of software. That means anyone can become an app owner without knowing how to code.
I love eating out! Discovering new restaurants that have been opened in my city, reading reviews, and experiencing tastes that I would not be brave (or creative!) enough to try out in my own kitchen is a very exciting experience. So when the coronavirus pandemic hit us, after the first shock and making sure that myself and my closest ones are safe I’ve started to order as much food as I could from my favorite places. Why? Because I know, how hard and unpredictable is to run a restaurant - and I didn’t want the places that bring me so much joy to close.
Nowadays many applications are a replacement for the “old” way of buying things. If you want to order food, you don’t have to call a restaurant but you are using e.g. Uber Eats. Or if you are a bookworm and you are not able to take all books with you, you have a phone with the app where you can buy a new one and read it on the go!
